In 2019, the UK’s first 100% natural, compostable coffee capsules were launched by Gordon St Coffee and Solinatra. Home and industrially compostable, the Nespresso®-compatible capsules are plastic free, and fully degrade without leaving behind any microplastics or contaminants.

Loyal customers near and far, wanting the taste of their favourite coffee at home or in the office can enjoy the signature blend in a convenient coffee capsule. Perfectly portioned capsules ensure a delicious cup of coffee every time, with zero waste.

Complementing the retail offering of the brand, the capsules are sold alongside coffee beans, ground coffee and merchandise online and instore.

Sustainability in Every Sip

The capsules are made with 100% natural, plant based ingredients and contain zero plastic. Suitable for food waste bins and garden compost bins, the environmentally friendly coffee pods offer a simple solution for customers who want delicious coffee without the bitter taste from their environmental footprint. 

After brewing a cup of coffee, the used capsule can simply be disposed of in a food waste bin or home compost, where they will fully break down in the same time as a banana skin.

Coffee capsules made of Solinatra have been awarded “OK compost Industrial” by TÜV Austria CERT GmbH, confirming that the 100% natural, plant-based capsules are the more eco-friendly choice.

Innovative by Design

Solinatra Barrier is a grade of material designed for coffee capsules, with high oxygen barrier and water vapour barrier properties to keep coffee fresh. The material is injection moulded, to create mono-layer capsules with high performance. The capsules are heat sealed with a compostable, paper lidding film: EcoPressoLid, made by Constantia.

Coffee capsules made of Solinatra are 100% natural, plant-based, biodegradable, compostable; and contain zero PFAS, zero plastic, zero fossil derived ingredients, nor leave behind any microplastics or harmful contaminants.
